  • Youtube TV Adds Viacom Channels

For the most part for 4 decades if you couldn’t get a good southern sky “look angle” for satellite or you were renting you had only one option for tv, that was your local cable co.  Over builders came and went, but the cable company would discount in these areas until the overbuilder left.

A few years back Dish broke into a nationwide footprint via internet delivered TV with it’s Sling TV offering a very skinny bundle, most of channels were the ESPN channels anchoring it for $20/mo.  This was perfect for some, but didn’t provide the channels you miss from cable.

Now a couple of the big internet live TV providers are testing going head on with Comcast by providing a huge channel lineup.

Today Youtube TV made this leap by securing rights to all the base Viacom channels.

Youtube TV is adding CMT, MTV, Comedy Central, VH1, BET, TV Land, Nickelodeon, and the Paramount Network.  In addition they plan to add 8 more Viacom channels soon, including Teen Nick and MTV Classic.

“We’re excited to launch ViacomCBS’ portfolio on YouTube TV this summer, ” said Lori Conkling, Global Head of Partnerships at YouTube TV when the announcement was made in May. “Our expanded partnership delivers on our promise to offer a premium portfolio of content to our YouTube TV subscribers, as well as across the YouTube platforms.”

The price has changed to reflect the fact they are providing such a big bundle of live TV programming with a DVR included.  The price will be going up to $64.95/mo but doesn’t require equipment fees or other hidden fees.

If you combine HBO Max and their base pack you can get quiet a big lineup of live and on demand programming for under $80/mo all within one app on your favorite streaming device or game console.
